Norma Prewitt Franklin

Norma Prewitt Franklin, 76, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, September 7, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on February 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Julius Onnie Prewitt and Lillie Margaret Carswell Prewitt. Norma was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.

She was a former employee of Shadowline and worked as a preschool teacher at Calvary Baptist Church for over 30 years. When her sons were young, Norma was a Cub Scout den mother and she directed the senior citizen group at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed sending cards to her family and friends for all occasions.

Norma is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bob Franklin; sons, Mike Franklin and his wife, Wen, and Sam Franklin and his wife, Annette, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Petty Officer Second Class Michael Brandon Franklin, US Navy Corpsman, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Lindsey Dodd and her husband, Justin, Jayme Franklin, Benjamin Franklin, and Daniel Franklin; a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Dodd ; a brother, Bill Prewitt and his wife, Frances, of Morganton; and a sister, Pauline Dale and her husband, Ralph, of Morganton.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Gail Franklin; brothers, Harley, Doyle, Royal, Arnold, and Leonard Prewitt; and sisters, Ruth Dale, Faye Hawkins, Margie Crook, and Cora Stamey.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
