Octavia Martin Thomas

Octavia Martin Thomas, 92, of Morganton went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, December 4, 2017.  Mrs. Thomas was born in September 21, 1925 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Henry Martin, Sr. and Hattie Hunter Martin.  She lived in California for a number of years and attended Friendly Friendship Baptist Church.  She returned to Morganton in 1990.  Octavia was a lifelong member of Shiloh AME Church and was a foster grandparent at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Thomas; sisters, Arelia Martin, Beulah Copeland, Lucille Davis, and Georgia Jefferies; and brothers, Pedro Hunter and Sherman Martin.

Octavia is survived by her daughter, Mamie Kincaid (Willie); step-daughter, Cynthia McKesson; granddaughter, Dorthea Cunningham; grandsons, Dorian and Quentin Cunningham; sisters, Louise Kanipe, Jessie Martin, and Armelia Fleming; brother, Henry Martin, Jr. (Vivian); brother-in-law, Charles Davis, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Elma Caldwell of SC and Vivian Wilkerson of CA; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at Shiloh AME Church.  The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Lula Williams, Rev. Annie Belle Corpening, Rev. Mitchell Brittain, Rev. Keith Harper, and Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the residence on Frank Whisnant Road.
