Octavia "Tater" McClellan Stamey

Octavia "Tater" McClellan Stamey, 82, of Morganton, NC died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Born in Mitchell County, NC on November 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late David and Mollie McClellan.Octavia retired from the dietary at Broughton Hospital. She was a member of River Valley Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord. She spent most of her life singing gospel songs, and she loved her family and friends.Octavia is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Morrison and her husband, Calvin, of Morganton; a granddaughter, Leigh Anne Monn and her husband, Jeff, of Morganton; a sister, Eva Vance of Morganton; brothers, David McClellan, Jr. of Morganton and Bud McClellan of Spruce Pine, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Octavia was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Stamey; a grandson, John Robert Morrison; a great-grandson, Colton James Monn; brothers, Lee, Fred, Ray, and Roland McClellan, Sr.; and sisters, Nevada Woody, Alma Friday, and Ethel Staton.Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Douglas Woody officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
