Oliver R. Rockett

Oliver R. Rockett, 76, of Meadowbrook Dr., Valdese, NC died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born May 17, 1931 in Burke County, NC, and was a son of the late William Rockett and Lucy Carswell Rockett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, William, and Melvin Rockett; and a sister, Mildred Walker. Oliver was a US Air Force veteran, and was a member of Drexel First Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Mary Shearin Rockett of the home; his niece and caregiver, Lucy Walker of Drexel; a brother, Kenneth Rockett and wife, Kathy, of Asheville, NC; a sister, Wilma Powell and husband, Cecil of Connelly Springs, NC; a brother-in-law, Rudy Shearin and wife, Sue of Cary, NC; sisters-in-law, Frances Rockett of Morganton, Kathryn Green and husband, Jacky, and Margie Carter, all of Greensboro, NC, and Judith May of Willow Springs, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Drexel First Baptist Church with the Reverends Tito Madrazo and Buddy Corbin officiating. Entombment will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday at the church following the memorial service.
