On September 2, 2006 our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Jay "Pops" Scarboro was called to his Heavenly home after a lengthy illness.
Jay was born on December 28, 1929 in Thomasville NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Betty Helms Scarboro and Joe B. Scarboro; sister Jewel Haynes and four brothers Calvin, Olin, David and Elmer Scarboro.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty four years Jane Whitley Scarboro; two sons Phillip Craig Scarboro and his wife Denise, Michael Douglas Scarboro and his wife Deana; two loving grandchildren Jordan Elise Scarboro and Jena Emily Scarboro all of Morganton. Jay is also survived by a sister Grace Scarboro Sexton and husband Ray of Thomasville and a number of nieces and nephews. He also left behind a loving best friend, Felix, his little browned eyed puppy dog.
Jay has been a very devoted member of the Salem United Methodist Church where he had served as a youth leader for many years. He also cherished his many friends from Salem Church. He was a hard worker all of his life, retiring from Romarco Inc. in 1991. After his retirement Jay enjoyed many hours with his family in the concession business "Scarboro Fair" and working with "J &J" vending company. Jay had served in the armed forces from 1951 until 1953 being station in France and Germany.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday September 5, 2006 at the Salem United Methodist Church with the Reverends Donald Freshour, Alan Wilson and Beth Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 7:30 Monday at Sossoman Funeral in Morganton where the body will remain until being place in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Memorials in Mr. Scarboro memory may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church building fund, 1206 Salem Road, Morganton NC 28655.
