Owen Bass

Owen Bass, Jr., 75, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, March 11, 2011 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in Scotland County, NC on January 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Owen Wallace and Mary Francis Clark. Owen was a 1956 graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf. He was a talented athlete at NCSD, with letters in football, basketball, and track. He was of the Baptist Faith.A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Owen is survived by his wife, Virgie Dailey Bass of the home; a son, Roger W. Bass of Kannapolis, NC; daughters, Wendy Mae Bass of Morganton and Minna Hicks of Concord, NC; a sister, Mary Ann Peavy of Wagram, NC; and grandchildren, Hailey Bass, Kassie Bass, Amber Bryant, Christian Bryant, and Connor Hicks.In addition to his parents, Owen was preceded in death by two brothers.In honor of Owen, a memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
