Paris Powell Cooper, 77, of Valdese, NC died Friday, November 1, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on November 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Avery Powell and Addie Rector Powell. Paris was a very active member of High Peak Baptist Church where she served in all areas of church life including church clerk. She graduated valedictorian from Drexel High School. Paris was a former employee of Skyland Textiles and a retired employee of Alba-Waldensian. She was an excellent cook and loved having her family over for Sunday dinners.A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Paris is survived by her son, the Rev. Ron Cooper and his wife, Debbie, of Morganton; a daughter, Denise Cooper of Valdese, grandchildren, Jacob Hughes and his wife, Diane, Holly Tallent and her husband, Phillip, Benjamin Hughes and his wife, Michelle, and Joy Cooper White and her husband, Brad; great-grandchildren, Hunter Hughes and Tucker, Dalton, and Bailey Tallent; and brothers, Clyde Powell and Lewis Powell.In addition to her parents, Paris was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Cooper; brothers, Bud, Avery, Jr. and Richard Powell; and sisters, Marie Christmas, Louise Fowler, and Clara Powell.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2013 at High Peak Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Purcell and the Rev. Ron Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral.Memorial contributions may be made to High Peak Baptist Church, 3073 High Peak Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
