Patsy Ruth Carpenter

Patsy Ruth Carpenter, 71, of Morganton died Sunday, August 17, 2008 in her home where she was lovingly surrounded by family. She was born in 1936 in Custer City, Oklahoma, and moved to Oakdale, California at the age of 15 to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Lucy and R. C. Kell. Patsy was very athletic in high school and lettered in softball. For many years, she lived in Chowchilla, CA where Patsy raised her family. She was an active participant in community life serving as President of the Women’s Auxillary in the Chowchilla Post of the VFW, and also as Worthy Matron in the Chowchilla Chapter of the Eastern Star. Patsy moved to Morganton, NC in 2003.She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Glenn Carpenter; daughters, Carol Souza of Winters, CA, Glenda Hoxie of Turlock, CA, Brenda Simon of Madera, CA, and Kelly Rogers Carpenter of Chowchilla, CA; sons, Glenn Vines of Louisiana, Frank Gates of Chowchilla, Ca, and James Carpenter of San Lorenzo, CA; a grandson that she raised, William Lewis of Morganton; 16 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren with two more expected this year.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Carpenter; a sister, Lois Buchannan; and brothers, Larry and Gilbert Harrall.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev.
