Paul B. Owenby

Paul B. Owenby, 92, of Morganton, NC passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016.  Born in McDowell County, NC on June 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Christopher Eli Owenby and Fannie Elizabeth Crawley Owenby.  He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of WWII.  Paul was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and worked at several area grocery stores.

Mr. Owenby is survived by his sons, Sam Owenby of Myrtle Beach, SC, Dennis Owenby of Charlotte, NC, and Wayne Owenby of Marion, NC; daughters, Mary “Sis” Buchanan and her husband, Garry, and Colleen Avery and her husband, Donald, all of Morganton; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin and Cecil Owenby of McDowell County; and sisters, Bonnie Goldsmith of Raleigh, NC of Pansy Hinson of Huntersville, NC.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Whisenant Owenby; a son, Bill Owenby; brothers, Clyde, Roy, and Fred Owenby; and sisters, Hazel Callahan and Helen Fender.

The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2016 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  A celebration of Paul’s life will follow at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Lawrence officiating.
