Paul Ed Walker, Sr., 87, of Hopewell Rd, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, December 21, 2006 after an extended illness. Paul was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he was active in the choir. He was a U.S. Army, WW II veteran serving in the European Theater with Company B. Paul was co-owner of Firestone Home & Auto in Morganton until he opened Quality Tire Service in 1960, which he ran until his retirement in 1995.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher Bon Walker and Viola Dale Walker; Wife, Velsie Etta Smith Walker; brothers, Carl Walker, George Walker and Charles Walker; sisters Anniebelle Walker Smith and Beulah Walker Simpson.
Left to cherish his memory is a son, Paul Walker, Jr.: daughter, Lynn Walker and husband Gary both of Morganton; one grandchild, Erin Walker; sister, Pauline Scott of Raleigh and special caregivers, Pat Brittain, Teresa Brittain and Brenda Pearson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Murdock officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund 1112 Hopewell Rd., Morganton, NC. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
