Heaven opened the pearly gates for Paul Fredrick Hoglen, 88, of Morganton who passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Born in Buncombe County, NC on February 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Talmage Hoglen and Zonnie Russell Hoglen. Paul was a member and former choir member of Mt. Home Baptist Church, and he was a former deacon of Cross Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodcarving, singing, and listening to gospel music. Mr. Hoglen retired from BASF.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Paul is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Carver Hoglen of the home; children, Barbara Thomas, Pam Sisk, Gerald Hoglen (Rita), and Paula Crawley (Jessie); seven grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Hoglen Renfro; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Rathbone and Ineva Carver.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
