Paul Jackson Mitchell

Paul Jackson Mitchell, 70, of Morganton, NC died Monday, March 11, 2013. Born April 22, 1942 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Dan Santonio Mitchell and Minnie Elizabeth Williams Mitchell. Paul was a very active member of Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a former employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishing Company and a retired employee of Western Carolina Center. Paul also owned and operated Laurel Carpet Sales for over 30 years.He is survived by his wife, Shirlee Swain Mitchell of the home; children, Cyththia VandeVere and husband, David of Frederick, MD, Christopher Lynn Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV, and Michael Todd Mitchell of Morganton; grandsons, Steven and Ryan VandeVere; and a sister, Nita Rector of Morganton.In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Dan Jr., and Clyde Mitchell; and sisters, Dorothy Mitchell and Hazel Detter.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Barry Mahorney and Pastor Tim Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center, and Thursday at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 pm.
