Paul Lenoir “Topper” Epley, 86, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born in Burke County, NC on February 5, 1930 and was the son of the late Frank Lenoir Epley and Mary Ellen Whisenant Epley. Paul lived for his family and loved golf and poker.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Patricia Bowman Epley; son, Randall Lenoir Epley; grandson, Daniel Lynn Epley; sisters, Jenowese Hall, Ellowese Jarvis, Mary Epley, Ethel Atherton, Margaret (Toots) Russmecille; and brother, T.I. Epley.
He is survived by daughters, Karen Paullette Epley Lail, and Kathy Pamela Epley Karr; son, Kendall Preston Epley all of Morganton; granddaughters, Theresa Karr Morgan, Clarissa Lail Crooks, and Kristin Lail Edwards; grandson, Christopher Karr; two great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Carswell officiating. Military funeral honors will be provided by NC National Guard. A private burial will be held at a later date.
