Committal
Paul Welytok, 84 of Morganton, NC finally retired to a better place Tuesday, April 24, 2018 where he can watch over his family. He was born July 20, 1933 in Fairfield County, CT and was the son of the late Paul Welytok and Mary Chernak Welytok. Paul was a member of St. Charles Catholic Borromeo Church. He was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather. Paul was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean war. He loved woodworking and made many of the furnishings in their home and for family. Paul also loved doing anything outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed working on the train with the Pennsylvania Line in his younger years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandparents, Michael and Tessie Chernak; first wife, Joyce Dekay; son, Richard Welytok; step-son, Kevin McKeon; and grandson, Peter Felko.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne H. Welytok; children, Paul J. Welytok, Mark Welytok both of NY, and Tanya Welytok Bowman of Lexington, NC; adopted daughter, Chelsea Welytok; step-children, Melissa Johnston of CT, Peggy Felko and husband, Charles of NY, and Meghan Martin of FL; adopted grandson, Will Soper; twenty six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Welytok Hudak and Jeanne Welytok Mastroni of CT; many special nieces and nephews; and two German Shepard dogs, Teeka and Gage.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A memorial service will follow at 2 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Father Kenneth Whittington officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will also be having a memorial service at a later date in CT.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for their care of Paul.
