Pauline "Polly" Engel Csercsevits

Pauline "Polly" Engel Csercsevits, 81, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness. Born in Stewartville, MN on August 28, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter Engel and Minnie Leona Roberts Engel. Polly graduated from Stewartville High School and went to work for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She then moved to Charlotte and later to Morganton to work at Burands Clothing. Polly finally worked at the Western Youth corrections Center until she retired after 17 years. She was a longtime volunteer at Grace Hospital and also a volunteer at COMMA. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Women of the E.L.C.A. She loved to play bridge. Polly was an avid arts and crafts person; she made baskets, stained glass, jewelry, etc., and sewed for various friends and family.Polly is survived by her husband of 18 years, Joseph Csercsevits, III of the home; a daughter, Brenda Combs and her husband, Tim, of Greensboro, NC; a grandson, Spencer Combs; a brother, Paul Engel and his wife, Diane, of Naples, FL; sisters, Marcella Polkowske and her husband, John, and Janice Wellik and her husband, Dean, all of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Hodge.The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Riley officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 11:00 a.m. until noon prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 or to Calvary Lutheran Church, 119 N.
