Pauline Powell Austin

Pauline Powell Austin, 97, of Valdese, NC went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 9, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Monroe Powell and Sallie Killian Powell.  She was a member of East Valdese Baptist Church and retired from Alba Waldensian.  Pauline had been active with Meals on Wheels in Valdese and enjoyed sewing and traveling.

Mrs. Austin is survived by her son, Charles Mack Austin of Valdese; grandsons, Charles Eubert Austin and Wilson “Gene” Austin, both of Valdese; sisters, Louise Morgan and Mary Ellen Gantt and husband, Jeff; sisters-in-law, Clara Powell and Linda Powell; numerous nieces and nephews; and a former daughter-in-law, JoAnne Kincaid Austin.

In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Erastus Austin; and brothers, Marvin “Tipp”, Roy, and Curtis “Buck” Powell.

The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm, Thursday, September 14, 2017 AT East Valdese Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 1pm at the church with the Rev. Lee Harris and the Rev. Dr. Burt Wilbur officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
