Pearl McGalliard Peeler, 97, of Morganton, NC passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016. Born in Rutherford County, NC on July 3, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Waightstill T. Mayfield and Mittie Ann Whisnant Mayfield. She was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church and a former Sunday school teacher and member of the church council. Mrs. Peeler retired from Western Carolina Center in 1981. Following her retirement she worked at Foothills Mental Health and volunteered at Burke United Christian Ministries.
Pearl is survived by her daughters, Frances M. Branch and friend, Floyd Thomas, of Morganton, Freda McGalliard of Glen Alpine, and Patsy McGalliard-Woody and husband, Charles, of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Monty Branch, Veleka Holland, Tim Smith, Tammy Blackwell, Travis Propst, and Melissa Vanderbilt-Bestor; 15 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peeler was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Wilson McGalliard; second husband, Alvin Peeler; 5 brothers, Lee, Walter, Lloyd, Albert, and Frank Mayfield; and 2 sisters, Rose Cook and Pat Shuffler.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will take place at 1 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Magnuson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
