Peggy Ann “Pegann” Fleming Drayton

Peggy Ann “Pegann” Fleming Drayton, 80, of Morganton, NC departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on September 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Henry Blackmon and Mildred Fleming Blackmon. Peggy was a member of Slades Chapel AME Zion Church and Green Street Presbyterian Church. She worked at Shadowline and retired from Rexnord Corporation. A caring and nurturing woman, Mrs. Drayton loved her family and was always taking care of everyone.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Peggy is survived by her grandchildren, Dewaren Rutherford of Glen Alpine, NC, Darnell Avery of Raleigh, NC, Henry L. Drayton of Rutherfordton, NC, Jade R. Murphy of Morganton, and Robert “Bobby” Murphy, Jr. of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Omarion, Trevion, Malachi, Keyson, Jesiah, Ke’Son, Ke’Mauri, Taylor, and Logan; an aunt, Marjorie Fleming; and first cousins, Harold and Vera Biggers of Shelbyville, TN, Frank and Carol Fleming of Reidsville, NC, Frankie and James Wood of Georgia, Norma Fleming of Charlotte, NC, Dell Gardin of Boston, MA, Robert and Jennifer Walton of Williamsburg, VA and Myra Fleming of Texas..
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Lorraine Drayton Murphy; and a son, Henry Jette Drayton.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Slades Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. A memorial service will follow at the church at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Andrew B. Smoke and Dr. Marla F. Patchel presiding.
