Peggy Ellen Brittain Self, 80, of Morganton went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Born in Burke County, NC on March 14, 1938, she is the daughter of the late Ned E. Brittain and Ina Mae Powell Brittain. Peggy was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she loved her Sunday school class. Peggy loved writing cards for her church members and never forgot a birthday. She loved visits from her family and friends, who were very special to her. She was a great prayer warrior and always prayed for family and friends daily. She was known for her pound cakes and homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed working in her garden.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward E. Self, Sr. of the home; children, Junior Self (Jannell), Debra Self Denton (Tommy), and Christine Self Avery (Barry); grandchildren, David Self (Nicole), LaDonna Self Dale (Jarrod), Jonathon Denton (Heather), and Alisha Denton Hildebran (Jason); step-grandchildren, Maleah and Shelby Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Levi, Luke, Colten, Bryar, and Peyton; step-great-grandchildren, Dax and Keraghen; brother, Bill Brittain (Ruth); and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Andrew Self; step-daughter, Lauren Ramsey; and a brother, Roy Lee Brittain.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2018 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Shawn E. Thomas and Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
