Peggy Henson Benton Nichols

Peggy Henson Benton Nichols, 60, of Morganton, NC, formerly of Roan Mountain, TN, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Burke Palliative Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 31, 1952, she was the daughter of Lois Elizabeth Stockton Browning of Morganton and the late Henry Ford Henson. Peggy was raised in the Baptist Faith and loved animals and children. She helped her son at 181 Convenience Store and served as a caregiver to her mother.Peggy is survived by her son, Shane Benton and his wife, Joy, of Morganton, and their children, Jocelyn Benton and Jacob Coffey; a daughter, Christy McGee and her husband, Barry, of Morganton, their children, Noah McGee and Derik McGee and his fiancée, Ashley, and Christy’s granddaughter, Rory McGee; a brother, Lester Henson and his wife, Sandi, of Roan Mountain, TN; a niece, Sara Barnett; great-nieces and nephews, Emma, Mason, Cain, and Dawson; and close friends, Nicole Nelson and Alley Ward.In addition to her father, Peggy was preceded in death by a brother, John David Henson and her nephew, Jody Henson.A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Rocky Reese and John L. Stockton officiating.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
