Peggy Smith Tucker

Peggy Smith Tucker, 68, of Charlotte, NC, passed away, Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Born on April 24, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mildred Smith.

Peggy was one of the premier bankers in the Charlotte area. She started as a teller at Wachovia in Morganton, her home town. After marrying the love of her life and moving to Charlotte, she worked her way up in the company and retired as a Regional Bank Private Banker for Wells Fargo.

Peggy loved playing sports, especially tennis and softball, and was on the tennis team at NC State University. One of her favorite things to do was cook. She loved picnicking in the mountains and vacationing at her home in Sunset Beach.

She suffered a spinal cord injury in 2019 that put her into a wheelchair. Nearly three years later, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She bore this with courage and grace. Through it all, she was more concerned with her family’s welfare than her own ailing health.

She gave her husband and children unwavering devotion. We will cherish her memory, and be grateful for the moments she gave us.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Edward Preston Tucker, Jr.; daughters, Anna Katherine Tucker and Sarah Elizabeth Tucker; and sister, Judy Smith Carswell (Kelly).

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2022 at Burkemont Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow in the church at 12 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care in Charlotte, NC.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
