Phillip Swartz

Phillip Swartz, 74, of Morganton, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 13, 2015.  Born in Olney, IL on July 31, 1941, he was the son of the late Harry Swartz and Ruth Burke Thompson.  Phillip had attended Union Chapel Baptist Church in Indiana and served in the Indiana National Guard for 7 years.  He worked for 12 years Marion Malleable Iron Works and then retired from DANA Corporation after 30 years.  Phillip was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Swartz leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Kay Gaither Swartz of the home; sons, Phillip Swartz, Mark Swartz and his wife, Lisa, and Tim Swartz and his wife, Amy, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Shawn Swartz, Eric Swartz, Sasha Swartz, Nicole Feltner, Kelsey Guinn and her husband, Dustin, Hannah Swartz, Rebekah Smith and her husband, Josh, Israel Swartz, Chloe Swartz, Emily Swartz, Seth Swartz, and Rachel Swartz; eight great-grandchildren; and three canine companions, Maddie, Jake, and Munchie.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his step-father, Howard Thompson; and two brothers, Ronald Swartz and Andy Thompson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  A celebration of Phillip’s life will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home’s Colonial Chapel with Rev. John White officiating.
