Phyllis Adcock “Mawmaw” Poteat, 91, of Morganton, NC died on Saturday, January 2, 2016. Born in England, on June 25, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Sydney Arthur Adcock and Edith Gent Adcock. Phyllis was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Poteat is survived by her children, Melvyn Poteet of Greensboro, Andrew Poteet and Judy, Trudy Poteet McCrary and Bruce, and Wendy Poteet, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Andrea Bryant Lewis, Steve Poteet, Jason Poteet, Amanda Poteet, Lucas Crawley, and Scarlett Crawley; great-grandchildren, Drew Bryant Lewis, Madison Lewis, Liam Poteet, Kirsten Poteet, Serena Poteet, Dominic Poteet, Trevor Poteet, Gavin Poteet, and McKenleigh Lail; and a great-great-granddaughter, Serenity Bryant.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poteat was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Poteet, Jr.; sons, Lendon and Brian Poteet; and two sisters and one brother.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon at the church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline and Rev. Donald Denton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
