Rachel Rene Smith, 82, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on January 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Gaither Smith and Elene Hallyburton Smith. Rachel was a member of Westview Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She loved being at church, and she loved her church family. She was a loving soul who was kind to everyone. She enjoyed working in her flowers, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Rene McGalliard and husband, Patrick McGalliard; granddaughter, Angela Cooper; great-grandchildren, Charity Baker, Dakota Cooper, Jacob Baker, and Tyler Franklin; four great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Genelle Whisenant, Carolyn Cline, and Richard Smith.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wesley Smith; granddaughter, Amanda Cooper; sister, Marie Smith; and brother, Douglas Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Westview Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Ricky Speagle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
