Raymond Ervin Walker

Raymond Ervin Walker, 77, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.  Born in Burke County, NC on December 1, 1943, he was the son of the late Pink Walker and Tessie Walker.  Raymond was an active member of Morganton First Church of God, having served on the church board for several years.  Known as the “BBQ Man” for the church, he was a member of the men’s Bible study group and served on several mission trips.  Raymond retired from Wachovia Bank and then worked with selling and managing mobile homes.  He enjoyed traveling to the outer banks and fishing in the surf.

Mr. Walker is survived by his daughter, Audrey Buchanan; granddaughter, Brooke Buchanan; and his canine companion, Pepper.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Janie Hamrick Walker; and all of his brothers and sisters.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park with Rev. Jon McDivitt officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
