Rebecca Alice Alston Suttles, 74 of Morganton, NC died Monday, October 7, 2013 at Mission Hospital, Asheville. Born May 2, 1939 in Halls, TN, she was a daughter of the late Bon Garvin Alston and Luna May Manuel Alston. She was a retired employee of Western Carolina Center where she worked for twenty-two years. Mrs. Suttles was a member of New Grace Church where she served as an organist and pianist. For most of her life she served as an organist and pianist at many churches. For twelve years she and her husband sang with the gospel quartet, "Joyful Sound". She was an animal lover and especially enjoyed her dogs.Surviving are her husband of fifty-seven years, James O. Suttles of the home; a son, James Michael "Mike" Suttles of Rhodhiss, NC and companion, Teresa Propst of Hudson, NC; a daughter, Susan Suttles Thompson of Nebo, NC; grandchildren, Michaela Suttles, Ethan Thompson, and Michelle Baker Jakab; great grandchildren, Trinity Dawn Jakab and Devin Michael Jakab; brothers and their wives, Gaylon and Elaine Alston and Steve and Kathy Alston all of Ripley, TN; sisters, Hazel Trosper and Diane Patterson both of Ripley; a number of nephews and nieces; and her faithful canine companions, Black Dog, Rocky, and Godzilla.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Queen and Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.
