Rebecca Jane Oxford Williams, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with debilitating arthritis. Her caregivers, Ruth Ray and Pete Cox, gave her the gift of passing in her own home in the midst of undying loyalty and love.
Born on April 20, 1936, Rebecca was the daughter of Claude Anders Oxford, Sr. and Ozelle Louise Oxford. Along with her parents, she is now reunited in Heaven with her husband of 62 years, Claude N. Williams, Sr, her brother, C.A. Oxford, Jr. and wife, Barbara, brother-in-laws, Jack, Howard, Wayne and Joe Williams, sister-in-laws, Alice Wellons, Betty Causby and Lenada Williams. What a joyous celebration they must be having, just like the old days.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Claude N. Williams, Jr. and wife, DJ of Asheville, daughter, Deborah Williams Scott and husband, Danny of Morganton, grandson Joshua Rand Williams of Asheville, granddaughter Melissa Pashayan and husband, Alex, great granddaughter, Annette "Trixie" Pashayan all of Kernersville and special niece Cindy Williams Hill.
After graduating from Morganton High School, Rebecca made her career as an administrative assistant at Wachovia Bank where she retired. In later years she worked with Jack Williams Accounting Firm. She was very active in the American Business Women's Association, the American Cancer Society and the Salvation Army. She was a gifted alto singer. She led the youth choir, sang in the ladies quartet, and the choir of Hopewell Baptist Church, the Chancel choir of First Baptist Church and the Annual Combined Christmas Choir led by her cousin James Jerome "Jimmy" Williams.
Above all, Rebecca devoted her life to her family. She and Claude cared for both his parents and her parents in their final years. Her children and husband were the most important part of her life and she gave of herself freely and unconditionally to those who she loved.
Rebecca is now free from pain. She is singing and dancing with the angels. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm, Saturday June 25, 2022 at Hopewell Baptist Church. The funeral will be held in the church at 2pm with the Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amorem Hopsice.
