Rena M. Singleton

Rena M. Singleton, 90, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese. Born August 25, 1920 in Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas K. Ritchey and Mary Roseanna Poteet Ritchey. In addition to her parents, Rena was preceded in death by husband, Lewis A. Singleton; and her brothers and sisters. She attended the First Assembly of God, and worked as a teacher’s assistant at Morganton Junior High School. Rena loved life and loved to dance.Rena is survived by sons, Jimmy L. Singleton and wife, Iris, and Cecil J. Saunders, Jr. and wife, Peggy, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Wendy S. Myers and husband, Mark of Morganton, and Cecil James "Jake" Saunders of Aurora, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Jamey Myers, and Amber Welner and husband, Matthew, all of Hickory; and a niece, Marlene Hunter of Virginia.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service.
