renda Chapman Johnson, 72, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 7, 2014. Born in Burke County, NC on June 12, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Chapman and Vertie Amplice Prewitt Chapman. Brenda was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from Western Carolina Center.A loving mother and grandmother, Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons, Keith Johnson and his wife, Patricia, and Eddie Johnson, both of Morganton; granddaughters, Ashley and Brianna Johnson; great-grandchildren, Hunter Johnson and Destinee Johnson; brothers, Willard and Don Chapman; sisters, Betty Garrison, Sue Benfield, and Vivian Ross; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Johnson; a brother, Erseal Chapman; and four sisters, Mae Bullins, Louise Denton, Thelma Smith, and Myrleen Dale.The funeral will be held at 3pm, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-3pm prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
