Rev. Ed Lawing

Rev. Ed “Bless Your Heart” Lawing, 71 of Morganton, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Born on December 2, 1949, he was the son of the late Ernest and Annie Lawing. Ed retired from Broughton with over 30 years of service. He was the pastor at Laurel Haven Baptist Church for over 25 years. Ed was a past Master of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217, a 33-degree Scottish Rite, and a member of the York Rite.

Ed is survived by his wife, Jane Campbell Lawing; daughter, Sascha Prebor and husband, Weyland; granddaughters, Lily Prebor and Katie Benfield Walker and husband, Chris; brother, Ivey Lee Lawing, and wife Carla; extended family members, Rondal, Amy, and Tucker Campbell, and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his daughter, Jada Lawing Benfield; and sister, Pat Setzer.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Morganton. A celebration of Rev. Lawing’s life will follow at 3pm with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Masonic Rites will be provided by Steele Creek Lodge #737 and assisted by Catawba Valley Lodge #217.  Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the family requests that all attendees wear a mask.

The family would like to thank the staff of Amorem Hospice, Dr. Keith Smith, and the staff of Burke Primary Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the food bank at Amorem Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
