Rev. William Alvin Shuffler

Rev. William Alvin Shuffler, 88, of Morganton died Tuesday, July 25, 2017.  Rev. Shuffler was born February 1, 1929 in Burke County to the late James Alvin Shuffler and Maxine Shuffler Philbeck.  He was a retired veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War.  Rev. Shuffler was also retired from the ministry and was a member of Drexel Christian Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aiko Hirose Shuffler, and daughter, Maxine Smith.

Rev. Shuffler is survived by his daughters, Lupe Mills and Charlotte Buff; son, John Mark Shuffler and wife, Donna; sisters, Patricia Shuffler McGalliard, Grace Austin, and Margaret Patton; grandchildren, Amy Bradshaw and husband, Boyd, and Heidi Henson and husband, Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Macy Bradshaw, Hunter Bradshaw, Tyler Henson, Parker Henson, and Cooper Henson; a brother-in-law, John Smith; and a number of nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm, Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Drexel Christian Center. A celebration of life service will follow at noon at the church with the Revs. Tim Smith, Charles Bristol, and Dr. Charles Kelly officiating.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the NC National Guard. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
