Richard B. Snipes

Richard B. Snipes, 81, of Morganton Long Term Care, Morganton, NC, formerly of NC Hwy 18, Morganton, died Saturday, April 21, 2007. Born in Burke County, NC on July 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Luther Edgar Snipes and Lillian Dagenhart Snipes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Verlene Cline Snipes; and three brothers, Luther Snipes, Jr., Dwight Snipes, and David Snipes. Mr. Snipes was a veteran of WWII, during which he served with the 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre. Richard was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir. He also taught Sunday School at Mt. Home Baptist Church. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon after 50 years.

Richard is survived by a son, Edgar Brooks Snipes and wife, Guadalupe, of Lincolnton, NC; a brother, Benjamin Snipes of Morganton; sisters, Kay S. Lethcoe of Jonesboro, NC and Carol Peck of West Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Cross officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites to be performed by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church, 231 Brookwood Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
