Richard Bruzzese, 67, of Connelly Springs, NC, passed away on February 3, 2024 with family present after succumbing to his battle with metastatic lung cancer. He was born on January 19, 1957 in Connecticut to the late Raffaele and Ebe Bruzzese. He cherished the uncomplicated life in North Carolina, finding joy in restoring old cars, gardening, and the companionship of his dogs. His love for simplicity extended to spending time with family, mastering the art of BBQ and the secret sauce, and embracing all things Italian. In his later years, he became a gentle giant with a Joe Pesci sense of humor.
Richard is survived by son, Richard Bruzzese, Jr. and two daughters, Melissa Ogonoski and Sara Bruzzese; grandchildren, Angelina Ogonoski and Gabriel Bruzzese; sisters, Fran Fogarty and Grace Gibilisco; brother, Robert Bruzzese. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Simone.
The funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach, FL.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Rick was a great man. He took me under his wing as a younger man years ago and always cared to take the time out of his life to check up on me for decades. Learned allot when I was around him as a younger man. I believe he is at peace now and in a better place working on his dream car. Great friend to have Bruzzese Family you are in my prayers John Canard

Zio Rick time has passed we probably didn’t no all the we could’ve about each other. Holiday dinners at Mrs Grillo the dearest angel. As we become grown families spread but the one thing that’s common is that Italian family bond. Give my loving Mamma a huge hug for us and tell her Thank You for teaching us survival skills. See the light, see the life on the other side; for what we no it’s paradise with doves and angels. Much Love and Light to everyone 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Sending our sincere condolences to all of you. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Joseph Simone and family.
My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Bruzzese family.
