Richard "Dick" Smith, Sr.

Richard “Dick” Smith, Sr., 65, of the Oak Hill Community passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 17, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on September 12, 1952, he was the son of the late Willard James Smith and Elizabeth Wood Smith.  Dick was an active member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church where he had served as a trustee.  Dick worked for Dana Corporation for 27 years and retired from Perkins Heating and Air.  He was a veteran of the NC National Guard.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 46 years, Terry B. Smith of the home; sons, Richard L. Smith, Jr. and wife, Heather, of Morganton and Jason A. Smith and wife, Megan, of Lebanon, TN; grandchildren, Jacey Kimelee Smith, Jackson Redick Smith, Mallory Miller Smith, and Jameson Parker Smith; and a brother, Larry Smith and wife, Teri, of Morganton.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Paul McClure officiating.  A private graveside service will follow in Bridge42 Cemetery.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.
