Richard Eugene Rutherford

Richard Rutherford, 89, of Morganton, passed away, Friday, September 16, 2022. Richard was born September 13, 1933 in Burke County to the late George Roy Rutherford Sr. and Amelia Corpening Rutherford. He was a member of Corpening Chapel and served at Addies Chapel in Marion, NC.

Richard work at and retired from Dana. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Rutherford; brothers; Thomas Corpening, George Rutherford Jr., Ralph Rutherford, Abner Rutherford, and Roscoe Rutherford; sisters; Leola Hardy, Marjorie Scott, Ruth Rutherford and Amelia Faye Rutherford and a granddaughter; Amelia J. Rutherford.

Richard is survived by a daughter; Janet Rutherford, a son; Anthony Rutherford Sr. (Penny), grandsons; Aaron Hooper (Tonise) and Anthony Rutherford II (Hanna). Six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Also, Lewis Rutherford, Norma Ervin (Ned) and Jessie Corpening.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 23, 2022 from 1pm-2pm at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2pm in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Corpening Chapel AME Church Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
