Richard H. Rhyne

Richard H. Rhyne, Sr., 88, of Morganton died Saturday, May 31, 2014. Born in Catawba County, NC on June 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Whitener Rhyne and Gordie Lorwance Rhyne. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a graduate of N.C. State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and industrial arts. He then worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.Mr. Rhyne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred "Millie" Campbell Rhyne of the home; a daughter, Amy Wicker and her husband, Wayne, of Marion, NC; a son, Richard "Dick" Rhyne, Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Austin, TX; a granddaughter, Wendy Lynne Wicker of Marion, and a brother, William "Bill" Rhyne of Catawba, NC.In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, George Rhyne.Services are incomplete at this time.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
