Richard M. H. Stock of 107 Valdese Avenue, Morganton, NC, died peacefully at his home after a brief illness, Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Richard resided in Morganton for 64 years and was a well-known stockbroker and financial consultant for over forty years. He was born in Surry County, England, on November 25, 1930, but spent most of the Battle of Britain in the city of Bristol until departing for America in January 1941. He lived with different guardians in the US in New York and Philadelphia, attending preparatory schools there and in Delaware and at the Sewanee Military Academy of the University of the South. During the Korean War, Richard served in the US Air Force. Upon discharge, he entered the University of North Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In the late 1970s, he served as Morganton City Councilman for District Two for four years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Betty C. Stock, son, Barry T. Stock and wife Lori, daughter Jean W. Stock, grandson, Spencer C. Stock and wife Samantha, all of Morganton.
A cryptside service will be held at noon, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. John Hagmann. The family will greet friends following the service. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
