Richard William Whisenant, Jr.

Richard William Whisenant, Jr., 71, of Morganton died Saturday, September 13, 2014. Richard was born in Burke County on February 28, 1943 and was the son of the late Richard William Whisenant, Sr. and Inez Jimerson Carswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Caleb and Amanda Blanchfield. Richard retired from Drexel-Heritage Furnishings after 42 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Whisenant of the home; daughters, Barbara Monn and husband, Gregory, Angela Smith and husband, Bryan Anderson, Dawn Gregory and husband, Gary, all of Morganton, and DeAnna Deal of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Monn, Casey Smith, Kimberly and Brittany Mellon, Kortney, Kelsey, and Brighton Deal, Ethan Gregory, and Nicholas Anderson; great-grandchild, Nevaeh Wiseman; and his sister, JoAnn Seagers and husband, Grady, of Morganton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Webb’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Timothy Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Hospice staff and to Sherry Hamlett for her kindness.
