Robert "Bob" Hampton Bumgarner

Robert “Bob” Hampton Bumgarner, 72, of Morganton, NC was called home to the Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer.  Born in Burke County, NC on January 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Benton Bumgarner.  Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had worked in the furniture industry.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Bumgarner is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila Pritchard Bumgarner of the home; children, Chris Bumgarner and wife, Regina, Scott Bumgarner and wife, Shenia, Rodney Bumgarner and wife, Dawn, and Robin Smith and husband, Jason; grandchildren, Wesley Bumgarner and fiancée, Kendall Freeman, Haley Bumgarner, Tyler Shelton, Sara Pearson and husband, Aaron, Sam Bumgarner, Kelsey Smith, and Jacob Smith; a sister, Betty McKee; a brother, John Bumgarner; and his beloved dog, Tinker.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church.  The funeral will be held at 2pm in the church with the Rev. Dennis Carswell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  At other times the family will be at the home on Mt. Olive Church Road.
