Robert Clay Gilbert

Robert Clay Gilbert, 68, of Fox Gap Rd. in Morganton died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born June 14, 1940 in Mitchell Co., NC, and was a son of the late Charles and Bonnie Ledford Gilbert. Robert was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.Robert is survived by his wife, Lori Handy Gilbert of the home; sons, Sammy Gilbert of the home and Roy Gilbert of Statesville, NC; daughters, Sheila Gilbert of Florida and Barbara Gilbert of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Richard Gilbert of Marion, NC and Harvey Gilbert of Princeton, NC; a sister, Carolyn Gilbert; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.A memorial service will be held at a later date. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
