Robert F. "Bob" Williams

Robert F. "Bob" Williams, Sr., 81, of Morganton, NC, went to his heavenly home on Friday, May 22, 2015 from Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, NC surrounded by his loving family. Born June 4, 1933 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Joseph Estes Williams and Annie Belle Williams Whetstine. Bob attended Morganton City Schools, Kings Business College, and served in the U. S. Army. After college graduation, Bob worked several years at the main office of Drexel Furniture Company, was part owner of Bennett & Williams Oil Company and of Flip-In Market, and retired from the Burke County Tax Office as a residential appraiser. He was a sportsman, having played football and baseball at Morganton High School, coaching Little League baseball and football, and was an avid golfer. He loved the Lord, his family, the North Morganton United Methodist Church where he was a member, and a host of friends and golfing buddies.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Cannon Williams; a son, Robert "Bobby" Williams, Jr. and wife Barbara of Connelly Springs; a daughter, Denise Williams Rust and husband, Dennis of Morganton; grandchildren, Andrew Williams, Kristen Rust and David Winters; great-grandchildren, David Winters, Jr. and Madison Winters; sisters, Trudy Franklin of Morganton and Georgia Ann Whetstine Perry and husband, Len of Virginia Beach, VA; a brother, Jerry Whetstine of Fontana, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by brothers, Glen Williams and Joseph "Boots" Williams; and sisters, Muriel Williams Mintz and Martha Williams Hampton
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 25, 2015 at North Morganton United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Burt Williams officiating. Entombment at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to North Morganton United Methodist Church, 990 Sanford Dr., Morganton, NC 28655.
