Robert "Lee" Wiseman, 84, of Irish Creek Road, Morganton, NC went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Grace Hospital. Born in Avery County, NC on November 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Walter Martin Wiseman, Sr. and Sadie Ester Ollis Wiseman. Lee was a member of Linville United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a flight engineer on a B-24 Bomber which flew thirty-five missions over Germany. After the Army he moved to Michigan where he worked for The Edward C. Levy Company for over forty years. While in Michigan, he met his late wife of 49 years, Alvera Maud Tatum Wiseman. Upon his retirement, he moved back home to NC.
Lee is survived by his daughter, Leigh Ann W. Johnson and husband, Lance, of New Baltimore, MI; grandchildren, Darian Johnson, Luke Johnson, and Nicklas Lee Johnson; brothers, Clarence Ray Wiseman of Port Charlotte, FL and Joe Henry Wiseman of Ypsilanti, MI; and a special niece and nephew who were always by his side here in Morganton, Denise Vance Corn and Sammy Vance.In addition to his parents and wife, Lee was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Linville Wiseman and Walter Martin Wiseman, Jr.The celebration of Lee’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Linville United Methodist Church with Rev. Neal Brantley officiating. Military honors will be provided by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Linville United Methodist Church, 3625 Fish Hatchery Road, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
