Robert Morris Poteat, 87, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on December 28, 1928, he was the son of the late James Thomas Poteet and Etta Mae Bumgarner Poteet. Mr. Poteat was a member of Mull’s Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years and worked for Henredon for 44 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Zenna Ruth Norman Poteat of the home; children, Larry Poteat and his wife, Faye, of Morganton, Billy Poteat and his wife, Regenia, of Marion, NC, and Ruthie Roper and her husband, Randy, of Morganton; grandsons, Joshua Poteat and his wife, Kerri, Matthew Poteat and his wife, Erica, Andrew Poteat and his wife, Stephanie, Thomas Andrews and his wife, Sharon, Daniel Andrews, and Zack Roper and his fiancée, Laura; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Dawson Poteat; sisters, Julia Moore Mull and Virga Hall, both of Morganton; a sister-in-law, Mattie Poteet; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Poteat was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Poteet.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at Mull’s Grove Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at church at 3 p.m. with Brother Bud Jernigan, the Rev. David Orders, and Mr. Billy Poteat officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
