Robert T. Phillips

Robert T. Phillips, 86, of Morganton, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. He was born on May 15, 1929 to the late M. H. “Hennessee” and Beulah Phillips. He was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 66 years and at times was the Chairman of the Deacons. He was a Sunday School Director for 30 years and was also an R.A. Leader. Mr. Phillips worked for Mimosa Hills Golf Course as a grounds superintendent for 20 years. He then worked and retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center as a grounds supervisor. He was an avid rabbit hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Murray Phillips and brothers, Cameron, J.D., James, and Johnny.

An awesome father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his son, Robert Wayne Phillips and his wife, Judy; a grandson, Robert Wesley Phillips; sisters, Mary Neimeyier and Ruby Austin; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Phillips Smith, all of Morganton.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at Asheville Street Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at the church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas Goforth officiating.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
