Committal
Rodger Ervin Bailey, 67, of Morganton, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 after years of failing health.
Born in Rutherford County, NC on September 28, 1955, he was the son of the late William McKinley Bailey and Emma Bell Heaton Bailey.
Rodger was a member of Drexel First Church of God. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He also liked to hunt, fish, or do anything outside. Rodger was a graduate of Drexel High School and worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Morganton until they closed.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Rodger is survived by his wife, Phyllis Sigmon Bailey; children, Travis Bailey (Greta), Melissa Bailey Phillips (Ivan), and Emily Bailey (Christopher Grice); grandchildren, Andrew, Ella, Emma, Joseph, Jonah, Elijah, Isaiah, and Mackenzie; brother, Harold Bailey (Kathy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Rodger was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Bailey Winebarger.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Drexel First Church of God with Rev. Kyle Canerday officiating. The family will greet friends in the church following the service.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
