Rodney "Dabber" Whisenant, 51, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 after several years of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on April 26, 1961, he was the son of the late Nelson Andrew Whisenant and Sarah ‘Tincy" Allman Whisenant. Dabber was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and was an avid outdoorsman. He attended Freedom High School and was employed at Viscotec Automotive Products prior to becoming disabled.Dabber is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lisa Yelton Whisenant of the home; a son, Rodney "Roo" Whisenant, II and his wife, Jessica, of Zephyrhills, FL; a grandson, Nykolas Whisenant; sisters, Joyce Whisenant Pharr and her husband, Walter, Maxine Whisenant Roper and her husband, Forest, and Rebecca Dale W. Clark, all of Morganton; a brother-in-law, Robert Yelton; sisters-in-law, Diane Yelton, Karen Bowen, and Teresa Truesdale; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Dabber was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony and Janie Harrison Allman and Cleveland and Lola Whisenant; and a very special aunt and uncle, Leon and Ella Allman Hudson.The graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Francis King officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to assist with funeral expenses.
