Roger Caraway

Roger Caraway, 67, of 4011 Sherwood Heights Road, Morganton, NC, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Grace Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on April 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Howard Stokes Caraway and Lucy Norman Caraway. Roger was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. For twenty-four years he was an insurance representative for Liberty Life and Jefferson Pilot. In 2002 he retired from Broughton Hospital. Roger loved to garden and loved his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patsy Grigg Caraway of the home; children, Howard Stokes Caraway II and wife, Beth, of Huntsville, AL, Dowd Evans Caraway and wife, Rena, of Morganton, and Gretchen Lynn Caraway of Morganton; brothers, Jack Caraway of Waynesboro, VA and Harold Douglas Caraway of Morganton; sisters, Ella Mae Beck of Connelly Springs, NC, Frankie Herd of Morganton, Ethel Hunsicker of Bloomington, IN, and Nora Poist of Burke, VA; grandchildren, Garrett Caraway, Erin Caraway, Alexandria Caraway, Colton Caraway, Lillian Yardley, and Parker Wayne Yardley; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Roger Wayne Caraway, Jr. and a sister, Betty Fulbright.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
