Roger Dean King, 55, of Jamestown Rd. in Morganton died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born February 15, 1954 in Avery County, NC, and was a son of Thelma Beam King of Morganton and the late Ronald Owens King. Roger was a faithful member and bass player at Zion Road Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Rexnor and McCombs Oil Company, and an antique car enthusiast.In addition to his mother, Roger is survived by a son, Ronald Preston King and wife, Kelly of Morganton; a daughter Marisa Piercy and husband, Rev. Micah Piercy of Morganton; four grandchildren, Savannah Piercy, Luke Piercy, Cadence King, and Cole King; a brother, Mike King of Morganton; and many other relatives and friends.In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Mayfield King; and brothers, Kenneth Eugene King, Gary King, and Ronnie Dale King.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverends Tony Harris, Scott Evans, and Micah Piercy officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
