Roland Beck, 92 of Morganton, NC went to farm the fields of Heaven on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Born on July 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Beck. Roland and his wife Nancy attended Smyrna Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in the Korean War. Roland worked at Great Lakes Carbon and later went to work and retired as a supervisor from the City of Morganton Water Department as well as an active member and supporter of Farm Bureau. He helped build Valdese Hospital and was a member of the Board of Directors at Oak Hill Fire Department.
Roland is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Nancy Beck; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Stuart, Bud; sisters, Pearl Cloer, Kitty Sue Baker, Elizabeth Pena, Dare Johnson, Margaret Kearns, Louise Drumwright, Sally Drumwright.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1pm, Monday, January 22, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Judy H. Eurey officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Military honors provided by the US Air Force.
