Ronald Gene Whitis

Ronald Gene Whitis, 72 of Hickory, NC passed away Monday, July 11, 2016. Born October 2, 1943 in Union County, IN and was the son of the late Vola Whitis and Lena Daniels Whitis. Ronald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He served in Vietnam with the US Army and Desert Shield and Desert Storm with the Air National Guard. Ronald retired as a Master Sergeant.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Thompson Whitis; brother, Joseph Edward Whitis and brother-in-law, Darrell Fox.
Ronald is survived by his children, Ron Whitis and wife Kimberly of Las Vegas, NV and Julie Whitis of Hickory; grandchildren, Dixie Stamey, Logan Whitis and Bradley Whitis; sister, Mary Ann Mulheeren and husband, Mike of IN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mountain Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.
